U-GRO Learning Centres began serving families and children in 1973 as a preschool, or nursery school, in Palmyra, Pennsylvania. Founder Janice Holsinger partnered with a local church and hired teachers who demonstrated a positive approach to assist in
the learning program. From the start, Janice built upon her rich art and music background to develop a unique hands-on learning program that was an instant hit in the area. Soon, other communities approached her to start preschool education programs. The second U-GRO Nursery school started in Annville, PA in 1975. From
there, the Lebanon nursery school (1978), Hershey nursery school (1979), and Hummelstown nursery school (1981) were opened. In the early 1980's, when U-GRO Nursery schools were at their peak, the five schools were filled to capacity serving over 300 children daily.
During the past two decades, there has been a dramatic shift in the number of working mothers - and a matching shift in their childcare needs. Janice was one of the first to recognize that Central Pennsylvania families needed full-day childcare for their children while they went to work. In August 1985 Janice purchased and renovated a house in Palmyra and opened Palmyra Family Day Care.
U-GRO Learning Centres continue to build upon a recognized reputation for quality childcare and preschool education offered in uncompromising facilities that promote safety and cleanliness. U-GRO is now honored to serve over 600 children daily at seven Central PA learning center locations in Harrisburg/Union Deposit, Harrisburg TecPort Business Center, Hershey, Lancaster, Lebanon, Palmyra, York. Credit for this goes to each of the talented U-GRO teaching professionals, who conscientiously serve U-GRO children and their families each day. |
